The film release of my first short film documentary will be live on Saturday, April 27th, 2024!
“Twists in Truth,” directed by Lauren Woodroffe, is a poignant documentary that investigates the challenges young Black gymnasts face within a sport marred by racial bias and mental and sexual violence. As a Black American woman with Trinidadian roots, Woodroffe uses her background in English, Film, and Media to craft a narrative that interweaves personal stories with broader societal issues. The film highlights the importance of ethical coaching and offers a platform for underrepresented voices, embodying Woodroffe's commitment to justice, community, and emotive art. This documentary exposes systemic issues, celebrates resilience, and advocates for significant change in the gymnastics community.

My Mission
My name is Lauren Nicole Woodroffe. I am a sophomore at Barnard College and I designed this website as a high-school junior, ready to share my art and writing with the world. Visual storytelling is the narrative in which I express love for my community.
About the Artist
Lauren Woodroffe is a motion-image creative, image maker, and writer. She studies English, Film, and Media at Barnard College in New York City. Lauren is dedicated to making persuasive, emotive art and conveys a story of community. Her identity influences the nature of work, as she is a Black American woman with roots in Trinidad & Tobago. She strives to collaborate with the world around her and is committed to finding a home in every place she may find herself. She is seeking to heighten solutions to her challenges as a female Black artist. She is a visual storyteller who believes in justice and self-expression; in all forms. Photography is the medium in which Lauren practices art, but also the medium in which she practices self-love and the love she carries for the world that embraces her. This is Lauren Woodroffe.
